Service Civil International - Workcamps for volunteers around the world
Last spring I got interested in working abroad and meeting alternative
people from different countries. I phoned the Finnish Branch of Service Civil
International and asked for further information about volunteer workcamps.
I received a list of summercamps and found varying opportunities:
nature preserve work in Siberia, taking care of children in Mongolia,
renovating a sailboat for fair trade with the third world, building houses
using clay and sundried bricks, fixing bicycles for public use, working in
a village on an island in Nothern Scotland.
The international workcamps are for everyone over eighteen, who wants
to work voluntarily in different international projects. Also families and
people with disabilities have an opportunity to take part in the camps.
You just need a basic knowledge of English and the will to do cooperation.
The work is simple and is usually done 6-8 hours per day five days a week.
Accommodation may be in a common house, tent, church or youth hostel.
Simple meals are often cooked together. Each camp has 5-25 volunteers.
Workcamps are organised by SCI branches in different countries.

Contact the SCI branch in your country for further information.
